I finished the Catholic edition today. This is the first New Years resolution that I’ve ever been able to keep!! It’s a challenge to do this day after day, but what a feeling of accomplishment to have completed it. Thank you so much, Happy New Year, and may God bless you and the earth with peace.

Finished my year of reading today. A check mark can be put on my bucket list 🙂 Will take a month off then read a different version on this site–it was remarkable how readings of various weeks compared to what was going on in the church and my life. Will see if that still happens when I start a month later.

I am leaving this note to thank you for your well- designed daily reading plan that has finally enabled me to read the whole Bible cover to cover! I began on September 1, 2013 and just finished a minute ago, choosing to go ahead and finish this morning rather than wait until tomorrow. Your thoughtfulness has been a blessing to me and others. Also, I can’t imagine that I won’t just sit down and repeat the process again in order to absorb the Word of God more deeply. However, for now, I am proud of my perseverance and grateful to you, as I said. God bless you Lori.

Finished! I started on September 15, 2014 and finished today, September 14, 2015, just one day early. I plan to memorize the definitions to some words I didn’t know and study some chapters more in-depth over the next few months. Then I will start my second year-long reading of the Catholic Bible around New Year’s .

At the moment, Lori, I can’t remember any particular book surprising me or staying with me especially; but I’ll have to see what happens the second time I start a year-long reading. One thing I heard in a Bible class at my parish, however, is that nobody knows who wrote the book of Hebrews. So that’s interesting. Anyway, I’ll start up with Bible reading again in January 2016. Thank you!
Just finished my 2nd time reading the Bible using your guideline. I read the Douay-Rheims 1899 American edition last time so this time I read the New Revised Standard Version Catholic edition. Was supposed to be done July 31st but unfortunately life situations made it that I got behind 😦 My father was diagnosed with cancer in May and passed away August 1st. When I could read the Bible it held meaning on what our family was going thru. The reading I had said at my dad’s funeral was Sirach 17: 1-14 because it was the verses I read on the day of his cancer diagnosis. Thank you God for giving me guidance and strength! Not sure which version I will read next. Any suggestions?
Hello Laurie – I pulled up the passage from Sirach that you mentioned – what a beautiful passage! I had a similar experience when my dad died – a passage I read the day I learned of his illness and 13 years later it still is very dear to my heart and I reflect on it often. It is a great gift to me and I think the one the LORD gave to you will be a gift for you as well. I’m sorry you lost your dad – those men are so precious and a terrible loss in this life.
I read exactly the same order as you have – first Douay-Rheims and then New Revised Standard Version. The next time (which I’m currently going through) I have been following the same plan, but reading it in my St. Joseph Edition Bible instead of reading it online. This is the version we hear at mass so it is familiar, but I’m seeing new things (I don’t think that ever goes away no matter how often you go through!) I haven’t been as focused on completing it in a year – it will be nearly a year-and-a-half when I finish, but I’m trying to slow down and journal as I go, or look up passages more, or read the footnotes and follow cross-references.
I am not sure what will be next – I might try the Wycliffe version that is on biblegateway.com. It has apocrypha, but I’m not sure how the verses and books compare to actual Catholic books.

I had been meaning to read the Bible cover to cover for years now, thanks to Brandon Vogt and to this plan, I just did! What a journey! Thank you so much and God bless all of you who are ending or just starting, it is arguably the best new year’s resolution anyone can ever make!
I would only want to read more chronologically next time in order to better follow the thread of passages.

And thank our Heavenly Father for a New Year. I had hoped so much that I would get through the Bible before reaching my 30s…and when I didn’t, I began to have all kinds of dreams that I was running out of time and would face the judgement seat in shame that I had never made the time to read God’s Love Letter eve once. Now, I would be so grateful to have the opportunity to do it at least twice!
Just finished reading the Bible through for 2016 thanks to this site which has made it so easy to do. I’m looking forward to trying your chronological reading plan as I’ve always wanted to do that. I may do both. Thank you so much and may the Lord bless you all throughout this New Year!

Lori, I just finished reading for the 2nd time. I still find so much, especially the Old Testament, confusing, but it feels good to read it anyway…it is the Word of God! I just finished on Saturday and have started a new cycle. I’ve used other reading guides and stopped after 9 years so it was good to find your site as it is so helpful to have all the readings laid out one after another. The other guide required that I look up all the readings myself. Blessings and thank you.

Finished the yearlong project. As one of the earlier posters said, I will take a couple of weeks off (I still have cubits, cherubim, begats, and Israel’s bad behavior ringing in my head) and will pick up a different translation/version here. There is still much I need to get a handle on.
Congratulations! It feels really good to complete, doesn’t it?! I know how you feel – since I completed it the first time I’ve never stopped; my love for reading the Bible has only grown & grown. I am currently listening to a podcast through Ascension Press where Fr Mike Schmitz is reading aloud the Bible in a year. Each day is about 20-30 min and includes a short commentary at the end and I’ve been enjoying it a lot. For the first time I have a sense of context for the books of the prophets – the time period they were living and the people & events going on around them. God bless you, never stop seeking!
On day 36 of the Bible in a year 2022 with Fr Mike why did all of a sudden did he start reading so fast. I do see that the days are shortened from 2021. Is that why he speeded up. I had no problem last year. Not sure adding another year to my age would make that much difference. I know if I have Hallow app you can slow it down but I don’t have that. Without the app how can you slow it down. I do want to continue on my second trip around.
